POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN THE "TRANSLATIONAL VENOMICS" RESEARCH GROUP AT THE IMDEA FOOD FOUNDATION

The funding available for this contract is linked to the performance of activities related to the line of research that requires development in the form of R&D&I projects with special linkage to the specific scientific-technical research project "Molecular characterization of the therapeutic potential of an octopus-venom peptide against melanoma (Venom-Therapy") ref. National Plan Grant (#PID2021-126691OB-I00).
The assigned tasks are:
Multidisciplinary research aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of action of compounds derived from bioactive products (poisons and toxins), with the objective of identifying candidates and therapeutic targets useful in diseases associated with ageing, including cancer and associated mutations.
Basic and applied research, with animals and humans, with emphasis on studying and promoting their possible technological or therapeutic applications for the prevention and/or improvement of diseases associated with ageing.
Contribution to the evaluation, based on sound scientific evidence, of the claims that these new products may present.
The candidate will also participate in the detailed scientific evaluation of possible claims that may arise from the compounds tested.
Additionally, the candidate will participate in scientific and technical training activities for the Institute's laboratories and research groups, and will collaborate as part of his/her regular activity in the provision of the advanced services offered by the centre, with a main emphasis on the biochemical, pharmacological, cellular and functional characterisation of bioactive compounds.
Functions Research profile:
The scientific-technical activities of the postdoctoral researcher will focus on the design, planning, execution and analysis of the results of the group's experiments, in close coordination with the Head of the "Translational Venomics" research group and with the rest of the members of the group. He/she should keep abreast of the latest developments in the field by reading current publications, participating in congresses and seminars, etc. and developing possible new research projects.
The researcher should explore opportunities for technology transfer in the field of his/her research.
The researcher will assist in the supervision and training of trainees hosted by the research group, including trainees, undergraduate and master's degree students, PhD students, or any other type of student.
The researcher will actively participate in the writing of research projects, scientific publications, presentations at conferences or lectures, in close collaboration with other members of the group.
The researcher will perform laboratory analyses, interpret statistical results and prepare integrated summaries for reports, manuscripts and scientific projects.
The researcher will be a point person in the coordination of the work in the laboratory, including coordination with external collaborators, management of orders, placement and ordering of laboratory materials and reagents, maintenance and care of research equipment and other coordination tasks.
PhD degree in Biomedicine Area or related
Have a postdoctoral experience with a postdoctoral contract, not less than 8 years in public or private R&D&i centers or Spanish or foreign universities.
Additional degrees: Proficient in English, demonstrable spoken and written.
The selection of candidates will be carried out by means of a merit-based competition, guaranteeing the principles of equality, merit, capacity and publicity, as well as objectivity, independence and professional rigour, respecting the confidentiality of the personal data of the participants.
Once the deadline for submitting applications has expired, and once the fulfilment of the requirements listed in the second admission basis for this procedure has been verified, the Selection Committee will proceed to assess the merits included in the CVs and select the candidates who best meet the established requirements, in order to then open a second selection phase consisting of a personal interview.
The personal interview will consist of a face-to-face or videoconference interview which will focus solely on the merits claimed by candidates in the second stage and will be designed to assess the candidate's suitability for the post and knowledge of English. The interview will last a maximum of 45 minutes and will be conducted in both English and Spanish.

- Co-author of prestigious scientific publications (indexed in international databases), in some of them as first author, books or chapters of scientific and technical books. Highly valued index h>15 and influence in the research area of the Biology of Ageing, demonstrable with citations of your work.
- Co-author of communications to scientific congresses.
- Co-inventor in granted or licensed patents.
- Participation in competitive research projects.
- Extensive international mobility (stays in foreign research centres).
- Obtaining research prizes, mentions and distinctions.
- Experience in supervision, direction or co-direction of final degree and Master's degree projects.
- Other contributions not included in the previous sections.
Other merits to be valued:
- Specific experience in the research area of the biology of ageing. Knowledge of the physiology of ageing, cancer biology or the characterisation of poisons and toxins would be an asset.
- Extensive experience in a variety of experimental techniques, including molecular biology, cell culture, high throughput multifunctional plate assays, microscopy, electrophysiology, flow cytometry and metabolic flux determination using Seahorse technology is desirable.
- Experience in the use of statistical analysis software.
- Participation in the preparation of proposals for attracting external funding.
- Collaboration in transversal activities (dissemination of results, etc.).
Working conditions:
Type of contract: employment contract for scientific-technical activities (Article 23 bis of the Science Act), in accordance with current legislation, with a probationary period established by law.
Dedication: 37.5 hours/week in split shifts, from Monday to Friday.
Duration: indeterminate.
Incorporation: immediate, after the corresponding selection process.
